Lean and Clean Balancing Machine Bookshelf

Lean and Clean Balancing Machine Bookshelf

The Lean and Clean Balancing Machine Bookshelf is not only a cool looking bookshelf but also serves many purposes. The most functional being that it is not fixed in one position. This bookshelf is always balancing on one round peg in the wall. It keeps the dust off since, it won't rest on flat surface for a long time. Everytime you take a book off of one side, the whole shelf will tilt. Another useful feature is that the counterbalances are decorative frames. You can put tiny flowers like the ones in the picture or real pictures of you looking scared while going down a roller coaster last year at Six Flags.

Converted Watertower House

Converted Watertower House

zecc ARCHITECTEN converted this water tower in Soest, Utrecht, Netherlands into a residence. It came out pretty cool. I especially like the top bedroom, which is kept kind of open to the whole house. It'll be weird to have a big party though. I think of it more like a secret lair where you can start your nightly patrol off the top. I don't know where you could have a secret room to hide your costumes though.

Awesome DAP (Digital Audio Player)

Awesome DAP

This looks like just a concept but a designer named Yong-Seong Kim designed this DAP that unfolds to play CDs and MP3 CDs. It looks cool but not very functional as you can't just put it in your pocket or backpack when playing a CD. What it would be good for is if you go someplace to sit down and there's CDs around like a library. Although it would be weird to just listen to a CD at the library without taking it home and ripping it to your computer.

Darth Vader Hot Air Balloon

This is a homemade balloon in the likeness of Darth Vader. I'm not a big Star Wars guy, but It's nice to see some creativity in the hot-air balloon community. I have always been critical of seeing the same vibrant and distinctive colors and patterns on hot air balloons.

What!? This Place Actually Exists!?

Posted Mar 7, 2007 10:20 PM by Sung
Mont Saint-Michel

I came across this picture of Mont Saint-Michel on Dark Roasted Blend, an interesting blog that I see a lot of posts show up on digg. The first picture didn't seem like it was real but there were many more pictures of it.

Here is some information about Mont Saint-Michel from Wikipedia:
Mont Saint-Michel is a small rocky tidal island in Normandy, roughly one kilometre from the north coast of France at the mouth of the Couesnon River near Avranches. Its name comes from a small island, a granitic outgrowth approaching 960 meters in circumference that reaches 92 meters above the sea, dedicated to Michael archangel. The extraordinary architecture of the Mont Saint-Michel and its bay make it the most visited place of interest in Normandy and the third in France (after the Eiffel tower and the castle of Versailles), with some 3 200 000 visitors each year. Classified as a historic building in 1874, the site has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979. The church is crowned by a gold leaf statue of St. Michael by Emmanuel Frémiet, reaching a height of 155 metres (510 feet) above the sea.
A natural land bridge connected the island from the mainland. This made the island only accessible during low tide, giving it a mystical quality. After the French Revolution, it was used to jail political prisoners. The prison was short-lived as it was closed as a prison and declared a national monument in 1874. Victor Hugo, one of my favorite authors that wrote Les Miserables, was one of proponents of turning the island into a monument while it was a prison. He described the fast and unpredictable tides as moving "as swiftly as a galloping horse." The tides around the island moves a meter per second.

I was surprised that I didn't know about Mont Saint-Michel because it is the third most visited place in France behind the Eiffel Tower and the castle of Versaille. I guess it's more popular than the Louvre according to wikipedia. It seems to be a very popular among Europeans. It's also no surprise that it was the inspiration for Minas Tirith in The Lord of the Rings - The Return of the King.

These would be good for those weird parties where you don't binge drink. Mainly because you probably wouldn't taste the chili inside one of these chocolates shaped like bullets. You would probably just eat the whole thing if you got the chili.

NewsVine Invites

Posted Jan 30, 2006 11:49 PM by Sung
NewsVine is another Web 2.0 website. They give you news and the ability to blog the news in a different way then other websites. It's started by Mike Davidson with some other people that he worked with at ESPN and Disney. I've been following Mike's blog ever since I found a good article about CSS, I forgot what it was, I guess it wasn't that great. But I does very good work like the ESPN website layout. The previous one, not the current one. He blogged about how he quit his job at ESPN/Disney and was going to work on some big project. I hope he does well with NewsVine, after leaving the comfy job at a big, successful corporation.

Leo Laporte and Amber MacArthur have been talking about it on their podcasts. I don't know why I listen to all of them podcasts. They talk about the same things on all of them. I just wish There's more SuicideGirls radio shows. Last one was very good, BTW. Anyway, I just got accepted to NewsVine, which is in Beta. If anyone wants one and don't want to wait to get accepted, post in the comments with your email or if you don't feel secure about that, email me at sungchoi [at] gmail.com.

iPod Directions

iPod Directions This is a late post. I found about this awhile ago and thought it was blog-worthy but forgot to add it.

You basically enter a starting address and a destination, click the second button, and the website will give you a zip file of images files. The image files are alternately a map image and text direction. If you have an iPod Photo, Ipod nano or the new iPod, you upload the image files and you can scroll through the image as directions. It's really easy to use and it's free!

Experimental Interface

This is an experimental graphic user interface that someone in Sony's labs has created. It's almost Minority Report. Not as big. I'm still frustrated that technology is taking so long. I just want personalized mall advertisements. Am I asking too much?

Here is another link to download the video (29.6MB).

This is going to cost a lot

It's an LCD keyboard. The keys change depending on the program/game. You can change languages. Probably host of other things as well. Maybe light up in different colors when playing music so it looks like an equalizer.
