Two Things You'll Need In Life

Posted Feb 21, 2008 1:47 PM by Sung
Two Things You'll Need In Life

First one is the product on the left. They call it the SteakHouse Grill. It's pretty much a steak toaster. You put your steak into the middle and the electric grill heats it from the sides. The fat grease drip to the bottom which also reduces smoke. It's $199, so why don't you have it yet? Oh yeah, I can't find a way to buy it.

Second (to the right), is a Tetris ice block manufacturer. It's a concept design that they named "Tetrice." It's an ice tray with Tetris block shapes so you can play Tetris as long as ice doesn't melt. So, this is great for when you're outside in below freezing temperatures and you got nothing to do.

Cutlery Pen Caps

Cutlery Pen Caps

Designed by Andrea Cingoli, Paolo Emilio Bellisario, Cristian Cellini and Francesca Fontana. These pen caps can serve as a cutlery.

Turn your favourite office tool from your desk in a common cutlery...this is din-ink. A set of pen caps, including a fork-cap, a knife-cap and a spoon-cap, that replaces the normal pen cap during lunch time! All caps are made by annually renewable resources, like natural starch and fibres, to be 100% biodegradable and atoxic, warranting the best alimentary use. Dispensing each set in a compostable packaging the whole set is designed to respect the environment. Now give your office ballpoint pen a good excuse to be gnawed by your teeth: use them for din-ink.

Fine Art Sweatshop

Posted Dec 20, 2007 8:40 AM by Sung

Apparently there's a sweatshop in China that recreates paintings by famous painters. The good thing is that the paintings aren't sold as a counterfeit copy of the real thing but just as a recreation of the original. This is much better than a print copy as you can actually feel the textures of the paint and see the brush strokes that the painters decided on.

The company that makes the reproductions states that they have 622 galleries with over 5,000 artists working there and not all work are reproductions. Some are originals.

I can't imagine what the community is like over there. I guessing that it's like when I was in art school but with 50 times more people and everyone is Chinese.

Study Shows Philadelphia Sucks

Posted Oct 24, 2007 8:49 AM by Sung
Ugly Philadelphia

I love It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia but I didn't think people in Philadelphia was really like that. A Travel & Leisure magazine and CNN Headline News survey found that Philadelphians are the least stylish, least active, least friendly and least worldly. Beating out Washington DC and Dallas/Fort Worth for the honors.
Farley (senior editor at www.travelandleisure.com) pointed out the results...mean people in Philadelphia are ugly or the city is a bad place to visit.
Okay the "..." replaces "don't". But who cares Philadelphia sucks. Especially the way they played .500 ball at the end of the season, forcing the Mets to make the greatest collapse in sports history.

Smart Nail Guide

Michael Harris designed this concept idea for a nail assist. It helps to strike the nail with a bigger metal area at the top. It also helps you strike the nail down straight. The third benefit is the protection to your fingers. If you still hit your fingers even with this device, you do not have the sense of touch and sight.

"Dead" man wakes up under autopsy knife

Posted Sep 18, 2007 8:46 AM by Sung
Dead man wakes up under autopsy knife This is like one of my many nightmare scenarios to be in. It's like waking up while you're in surgery. Fortunately, it's wasn't in the part of the autopsy where your stomach is sliced open and the autopsy doctor juggles your intestines. If it was at that point, I think he would've went back to sleep.

Carlos Camejo, 33, was declared dead after a highway accident and taken to the morgue, where examiners began an autopsy only to realize something was amiss when he started bleeding. They quickly sought to stitch up the incision on his face.

"I woke up because the pain was unbearable," Camejo said, according to a report on Friday in leading local newspaper El Universal.

His grieving wife turned up at the morgue to identify her husband's body only to find him moved into a corridor -- and alive.

Multi-Million Dollar Underground Pot Farm

Multi-Million Dollar Underground Pot Farm

So this couple built this very sophisticated pot farm underneath a house. It has hidden hydraulic door in the garage, an irrigation system, surveillance cameras everywhere and an escape route that goes out a door hidden under a fake rock. If I decided to build a pot farm, this is close to how I would do it (mine would include robots in medieval armor that poses as decoration until set off by motion sensors and attack the intruder). The story has lot of pictures of the pot farm and some guesses as to how they were caught.

SuTree - Video Help

Posted May 4, 2007 9:46 AM by Sung
Sutree Video Tutorial Social Website Sutree is a video website where you can watch and upload videos. The videos get rated and commented on like any other streaming video website. This website stands out from the rest that the videos are only tutorials. People can upload a video about something that they know how to do. Thiswould be great for the MAKE and ReadyMade audience. This seems like a really good idea.

Of course, you can only make so many youtube clones until you put a clock in it (i.e. Revver, Metacafe) or make a niche version (i.e. Pornotube), so it's not an original idea. But I like where Sutree is going with their site. Though eventually, someone will post a tutorial about sex positions, they'll have to add an over 18 disclaimer and it will eventually become Pornotube. It always happens. Pornotube.

2 Girls Kill Friend Cuz They Felt Like It

This is a very interesting article about two 17-year-old Australian girls that one day decided to kill their friend. They just snuck up behind her and started to choke her with a speaker wire while holding a cloth soaked with chemicals. It sounded like she didn't go down easily, even though the girls said that they were trying to kill Eliza, the victim, without having her suffer. Then they buried her. They pretended to help Eliza's families look for her but eventually turned themselves in. Here are some of the girls' quotes:

"We just did it because we felt like it, it is hard to explain."

"I knew we had wanted to kill someone before."

"We knew it was wrong, but it didn't feel wrong at all, it just felt right."

Voce: Premium Wireless Carrier

Posted Apr 23, 2007 1:04 PM by Sung
Voce: Premium Wireless Carrier The incredible tall Cory Doctorow posted about this on BoingBoing. It's about this premium wireless carrier called Voce. They are targeting rich people but it's not that ridiculously expensive. Their basic plan is $500 to buy one of their phones, which is unlocked and you're not locked into a contract. Then it's $200 a month after that. It seems like a lot but I know a lot of people are out there that go over on their plans and end up paying that much anyway.

Aside from the price, there is one feature that this carrier has that no one else has worth noting. They have a 24/7 personal assistance service included in their plan. You can call anytime and call your PA anything. The PA will research anything for you and give you detailed information on whatever you ask. One of the testimonials read that when asking about a certain model car and its competition, the PA gave a very detailed information on all of them and set up a test drive for the first car.

Cory also called Voce and noted that the person who, answered within two rings, knew what they were doing. Seriously, you don't get that kind of service from any other carrier. You always go to an automated system where it asks you what language you speak. It's definitely not for me since I don't use the phone that much and I know everything but I know cellphone power users should definitely consider this carrier.

Take a Taxi from NY to AZ

Take a NY cab to Arizona A New York couple decided to move to Arizona once they retired. Like most New Yorkians, they didn't have a car. Rather than flying and shipping their pets where they can't see them, they decided to take a cab. They asked a taxi-driver, "wanna drive us to Arizona?" The taxi-driver said, "would I?!" all excited like Milhouse from the Simpsons would be. Then they did and gave Milhouse money. The end.

Ambidexterious Pitcher The New York Times has an article about Pat Venditte who is a pitcher for Creighton University. He is different in that he can pitch with both hands. Pitchers like Venditte are pretty rare obviously. Most ambidexterious pitchers haven't been that good or is really only good with one arm, they just happened to be able to pitch with the other once in awhile.

Dodger Find $2 Billion in Rocks

Goshen Rocks

Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Matt White bought a piece of property that belonged to his great-aunt for $50,000 so that she can go to a nursing home. Then while working on the property, he kept digging these weird flat rocks. They were Goshen stone. They cost about $100 per ton, which is a lot if you think about it. They're just rocks. It turns out that he might have 24 million tons of it. Despite the prospect of becoming a billionaire, it seems like Matt White is still trying to play in the Majors.

It has dinosaur experts talking about Godzilla if he had actually existed.

They expert did agree that the Mountain Dew version was less plausible even if it did look more "real." They also explained why Godzilla wouldn't need to eat and how he would be able to breath radioactivity.

Dandelife

Posted Jul 14, 2006 8:05 AM by Sung

Dandelife is a "social biography site". People can add their events on a timeline. You can wander around to other timelines and biographies. It's like how people on mySpace blog about things they've done or places they've been but much more organized. One cool feature is the integration with your Flickr account. You can associate pictures to events on your timeline. Same thing applies to your YouTube account. You can have your YouTube video connected to the event as well.

Their main competitor seems to be OurStory, which seem very traditional when you compare these two companies' business model. OurStory seems like one of those Web 2.0 companies that just offer a free service to get out there and start charging for "premium" accounts that have more features. I haven't tried registering with them but I think you can host your pictures there. Of course, they could offer more storage space for a fee. Very traditional Web 2.0 business model. In contrast, Dandelife seems to have a very different business model, according to Techcrunch. The stories you create with your Dandelife account and timeline can be bidded on by corporations to sponsor your story. Maybe it will be like "Sung's trip to Las Vegas is sponsored by Miller Lite" or "Welcome to the Taco Bell Drive to New Mexico". Mmm...Taco Bell...

This reminds me of the Seinfeld episode when Kramer sold his stories to Elaine's boss Mr. Peterson and couldn't tell the stories to anyone. Proving again that all good ideas come from Seinfeld.

Bugs Have Been Scaring Me Lately

Posted Feb 3, 2006 8:36 AM by Sung
Cory Doctorow posted on BoingBoing about this wasp that attacks roaches. It starts by stinging the brain so that the roach doesn't try to defend itself. It doesn't kill the bigger roach. It pretty much makes it a zombie. The wasp then uses the roach's antennae to guide it into the wasp's lair.

The wasp then lays eggs in the roach's stomach(on the outside part). All while the roach is still alive. The eggs hatch and the larvae eats its way through to the inside of the roach.

This comes after seeing this horrible video where a praying mantis and a cute little mouse are put in a glass jar to fight it out. The video might have scarred me for life. It was a very long and bloody fight struggle. The praying mantis slowed chewed into the mouse's eye and into the brain while holding the mouse's body away with those hands. The mouse didn't even want to fight. It was trying to climb out of the jar. I don't know if I should provide the link. I don't want others to feel that disgust towards the beavis and butthead that trapped them in the jar like that.

The doctors say that she has glucoma but that wasn't the reason for her blindness in the first place. They are still looking into how it happened.
